Nettigo

Last weekend we have released http://prawdziwe.info (en:real info). It is simple application for users of Blip.pl. Blip.pl is microblogging / messaging service used in Poland, similar to Twitter, but with more dynamic interface tempting people to use Blip as advanced chat service.

Creating Prawdziwe.info (service inspired by Follow Cost for Twitter) we wanted to explore new technologies (Sinatra framework and HAML markup) and most important: to make Blip users think before posting anything if this is really something worth sharing with others. Of course whole thing is meant to be fun :)

Prawdziwe.info is project developed in spare time and it took only 10 hours to complete - most time consuming task was to gather data who should be used as model. Apparently Robert Scoble is not on blip.pl and API does not provide easy way to find most annoying Blip user.

Today Nettigo Brown WordPress theme was accepted to Theme Directory. Current version is 0.4 and You can fetch it (and preview) on Theme Directory.

Nettigo Brown is theme used now on this site. Changes from previous versions are minor (graphic logo was removed, and replaced with blog title) and was made to make Nettigo Brown compliant with WP Themes requirements.

Starting from today signup for WordPress newsletter is open. I will prepare once per month a batch of useful information about WordPress (plugins, SEO and other). I’m using WordPress over two years and during that time I have gathered some experience I want to share with others.

I have just made available version 0.2 of Nettigo Brown theme. It is available for download from Nettigo Brown home page.

Changes include small bugfixes.

I have made available patch to WWSGD plugin for WordPress. With this patch, Google will better index Your content when You put WWSGD message before post. Excerpt shown by Google on search result page will be more interesting to users. This mean more traffic to Your site and this is always good thing.

I have finished work for Watwet.com - Jordan based startup creating social network around mini-blogging and messages. My task was to create Facebook application. I did it and You can view application page on Facebook.

Application allows to post messages to Watwet users from Facebook interface, new messages on Watwet can set Your Facebook status. Also if You set new Facebook status, then it will propagate to Watwet as new message.

I have made available theme which is used to run this site. Go to theme page for details.

My simple Flowery theme was accepted on WordPress themes directory. You can do theme preview there. Go to Flowery page on directory.

I did some small changes to Flowery Wordpress theme. Now it is compatible with Wordpress 2.5 and 2.6.

I have to admit, I like writing themes to Wordpress more with each theme I write. So expect some new ones themes. I think about releasing also theme on which Nettigo site is run. Do You like it? I did recently some updates to Brownie (this is how I have named this theme), and I consider release (on GPL since it is also based on Kubrick like Flowery).

First site developed by Nettigo is experimental site EduMapy.pl (site in Polish, still early beta). This is my take how can be better represented information about educational services in Warsaw area.

Foremost it is test how to handle huge amount (1000+) objects on map created with Google Maps API. There is at least few challenges. With organizing display there is some help with GMarkerManager from API, but it only solves fraction of problems.

My idea was to play with Google Maps API to check some solutions I was thinking of, but when I filled map with data about almost all public schools and kindergartens I discovered that despite data are very basic, Google is providing steady flow of new viewers.

They are interested in particular schools not map of whole Warsaw, so I decided to change attitude a bit. Now I will try to provide more useful information about particular schools. There are already forums, now I will work on providing information about test results (in Poland there are several tests on the end of each education level, they are published as statistics). I will get most interesting statistical data, gather them in one place.

What is the story?

I hope it will be more interesting to many people. So lesson learned release early, and watch feedback. I was interested personally in providing map overview of educational services. And more as technical challenge. Now I see there is real interest in finding information about schools, maybe it will be much more viable as web community drive?
